101010 or 42 Ways to get Lucky

October 9th 2010 19:41

As lucky numbers go 101010 is too large to be convenient. Fortunately it is composed of three tens and we can probably do something with that. For instance, consider as your lucky numbers, all the ways you can make 10:

19 28 37 64 55 or 91 82 73 46 55 or any combination or mixing of the two sets of numbers.

Now who can say what is a lucky number or what isn’t? It probably depends on the person. Maybe it’s opposite day for you so maybe you should only pick numbers that don’t add up to 10?

Some have pointed out that 101010 when read as a binary number comes out to be 42. If it is indeed opposite day for you then consider turning all the ones to zeros and the zeros to ones. This procedure divides 42 by one half and the result: 010101 comes to 21 in binary. Black Jack! Notice that two of the factors of 21 are 3 and 7 which when added to together make 10. And so the circle is complete.

If you want to continue in this numerological vein consider 21, 42, 63, 84 or 12, 24, 36 and 48. Or if we go with factors 2, 3, 7,6,14 which by transposition could get us to 41 if must needs be…

If you really want to get lucky with lottery numbers and the like then as they say: Play responsibly. A dollar a week on lotto is fine. Two dollars is too much. The laws of probability make it more likely that keeping the same set of numbers for years until you win is a better strategy than trying to chase different numbers every week. Hitting the lottery is like being struck by lightning. While it is highly unlikely, dozens of people get struck by lightning every year. So while you should never bet anything valuable on the lottery, a dollar a week is not going to kill most folks.

If you really want to get lucky pick your least favorite TV show and turn it off forever. Fill the extra hour you now have by learning something new today that you did not know yesterday. Most of the people you know who work less than you, or who have a physically easier job and yet get paid more than you, made the choice to turn off the TV to learn more about something they wanted to do. If you need some hints then learn what a macro is. For those who don’t know, a macro is a way of adding computer programming to applications like Excel or Word. If you are going to get ahead of your coworkers, or for some of you, just keep your job while others are being laid off, you need to know something that others don’t know. Learn some database software like Microsoft Access or learn how to make movies with Adobe flash. Learn Photoshop. Take a class at your local community college or adult extension. In real life real people “get lucky” by learning something and practicing until they get good at it.
