Football and Politics

Some are saying: If only Washington DC was more like the NFL. They would make a deal and the game would go on.
Not really.
In the NFL both sides were playing with their own money. They were not on the one side trying to save someone elses money and on the other, trying to buy votes with tax payer dollars.
Except for the upcoming election, the political bargaining sides have no skin in the game.
And what skin they do have involved--what self interest they do have at stake tells them that no matter what you do, you must not, as a matter of principle, compromise with the other side. Your constituency would never stand for it.
One side wants European socialism with 90% taxes. The other wants laissez faire capitalism with insufficient controls to avoid another economic melt down.
On the one hand you must sacrifice your freedoms. On the other you must give up economic security.
Can you get a good compromise out of that?
