Gay is not the New Black?

The last time I lived in San Francisco I had heard some intriguing things like:
The name for people like me was Breeders. I think I was supposed to be insulted but I figured since I had not yet fathered any children it meant I needed to practice more.
I also heard that gay men preferred baseball to football because they could "see more." Okay.
And finally I heard some underground rumblings that to be Gay and Black was like strike two in life. Not sure what strike three would be but it probably results in your either not being allowed on the bus on riding the short bus for life.
So I was not that surprised when an award winning writer who was both Gay and Black wrote a commentary for CNN entitled: Gay is not the new black. Let me take that back. I was surprised that anyone let that cat out of the bag. I already knew that all was not quiet on the Western Front. I just didn't think that anyone would be politically incorrect enough to say it.
If you look at the heterosexual black community, especially church going folks, the notion that racism and homophobia are identical has never gone down all that well. After all, the moment you walk in everyone knows what race you are but you have to tell someone who you like to sleep with or they would never know.
According to the article's author, LZ Granderson, there might be some backlash from the black community over Gays saying that Obama is not moving fast enough on Gay issues. I don't know if that is going to turn out to be true or not. Given the coalition politics that represents the strength of the Democratic party, Obama's reticence in the matter of Gay Rights is some what puzzling. Perhaps he thinks he has bitten off as much as he can chew. Or perhaps it goes back to what candidate Obama said about Gay Marriage. Namely, he does not support it.
