Hacktivist Day Of Vengeance
September 23rd 2011 03:18
There are a number of individuals from around the world who prefer to remain Anonymous. If someone–usually a large company, a government, or other large organization–does something they disagree with, they believe they should be able to level a denial of service attack with impunity. Call it: Self Righteous Indignation.
There was a protest of sorts on Wall Street a while back wherein a number of activists were deploring the thievery of corporate robber barons. Apparently some of these young hooligans got arrested for disturbing the peace and blocking the paths of citizens and traffic.
And so Anonymous has vowed revenge on Sept 24 2011 for the arrests and harassment. They will look silly if nothing happens on that day so I guess we will just have to see if they can do anything.
Should anyone be able to throw a public tantrum about anything whenever they want?
What was virtuous about civil disobedience in the past was that the practitioners accepted the consequences of their actions. Even when you agree with the actions of some of these activists–and I have no use for the thieves on wall street who bankrupted the world and then demanded bailouts–still there seems to be a lack of moral courage from the Anonymous types. Willing to wreak havoc but unwilling to accept the consequences of their actions.
Billion Botnet Attack
***
Denial of service: Keeping a website so busy with garbage requests that they can't deal with real customers
Hacktivist: A hacker who is politically active. A computer criminal with a conscience.
Anonymous: a loosely formed group of hactkivists. In terrorist terms–a cell.
