Happy New Year: Predictions for 2009

It’s getting to be that time of the year when people predict that hairless gerbils will unite and conquer Toledo or some such.
I will predict something based both on what is happening now and what people have said their intentions are.
First I predict that gasoline will go no lower than 50 cents per gallon in the next three years.
Next I predict that within the next three years, the price of gas will be raised to $11 per gallon. The price drop is easy to see since the price is dropping precipitously now. But how can I predict that gas will jump up to such a high price in three years?
I take liberal politicians at their word. Liberals have taken over two branches of government and once they pack the Supreme Court they will have the third. Liberals hate the domestic fossil fuels industry. The only thing liberals hate more than the domestic fossil fuels industry is fossil fuel driven capitalism. Through a combination of taxes, fees, surcharges, and a cap and trade system, liberals will bankrupt the domestic fossil fuels industry and leave the US totally dependent on imported fossil fuels. Since it will be at least two years before alternative energy systems will be ready to replace our existing energy infrastructure we will become more dependent on foreign fossil fuels than ever.
Taken together, all of these forces in addition to an increasing demand for fuel as the world climbs out of a recession, will produce $13 per gallon gas by 2013.
By the end of 2009 India will be at war with Pakistan and the US will intervene on the the side of India. Why this turn about in US alliances? Someone in the US will ask: If an adversary wanted to recruit more terrorists to fly airplanes into our buildings which of these two countries would that adversary go to? Another question might be: if Osama Bin Laden wanted to hide which country would he feel safer in India or Pakistan? Or: If you wanted to learn to be a terrorist which country would you go to India or Pakistan?
Israel will perform an air strike on Iran that decapitates the government and the military.
