In South Korea, you can pick up some extra cash by finking on your neighbors. In fact, some people get more money than they receive from their normal salary by recording infractions of the law performed by their neighbors and tattletaling by turning the film in to the authorities.
In the military there is what is known as a “blanket party” wherein errant soldiers are covered with a blanket so that can’t see who is beating up and then pseudo military instruction in the art of not screwing up the unit are delivered in the form of “secret” body blows.
One wonders if these South Korean finks are sometimes rewarded by their busted neighbors with a little midnight encouragement.
I suppose the naughty neighbors could consider not breaking the law…
For some reason the New York Times refers to the people who spy on their neighbors and busybodies. Maybe they think it’s all very cute.
