Pigeon Beats Internet

Some wise guy sets up a test to see which has the faster data transfer rate, a carrier pigeon or the internet. The pigeon won. Surely someone can come up up with a reason besides the inconvenience of dealing with bird poop why this is either meaningless or moot.
