Medicare Dependent Seniors: Get Your Affairs In Order

September 26th 2009 21:45

In case of Health Care Reform: Break Glass. The alarm you hear will be your life passing before your eyes. To pay for health care reform congress intends to cut Medicare and give the money to younger people. If you are an elderly person dependent on Medicare, you should get your affairs in order. The Marxist Czars who now rule the republic with an iron hand promise that nothing can stop health care reform. Therefore, the reduction of your health care benefits at the hands of the federal government is inevitable.

Do the current plans put forth by the Democrats contain cuts in Medicare? Here unfortunately, is a sticking point because it requires that you think for yourself instead of listening to an explanation that some politician gives you. When a politician tells you that he can find $500 billion of waste, fraud and abuse to cut out of Medicare, don't you immediately ask: if you could always do this, why don't you do it now and Show Us the Money? You do realize that the $500 billion will be cut irrespective of whether $1 or $10 billion worth of waste, fraud and abuse are found. In order to fudge the numbers, the cuts must be made. Go back in your mind over all government programs you have ever heard of. Has the federal government ever cut $500 billion of waste, fraud and abuse out of any existing federal program? Any of you who have actually been in government as I have, know that more regulations almost always means more time, more paper work, more layers of bureaucracy and higher cost. Saying the government is going to save $500 billion by cutting waste, fraud and abuse is like saying a fixed process will take less time if we add 10 more long, arduous and time consuming steps. It is not a rational thing to believe.

When the government has projected the costs of similar programs, to what extent were the projections correct? The reason you need to know this is you need to decide if the savings that health care reformers project have ever been seen in previous government run health care programs. You have no other logical way to determine the probability that current government estimates about future expenditures and cost reductions will be correct.

You may either google all these matters yourself or take a look at the facts I have gathered below. As they said to the guys with the losing hands in poker: Read ‘em and Weep.

If the government knows where $500 billion in waste fraud and abuse are, they need to stop breaking the law by allowing it to continue.

If you are old and sick consider this: In order to pay for Socialized Medicine, the government is going to cut existing programs like Medicare and Medicaid. In other words, they are going to take money away from sick seniors and give it to younger people.

There are no economic reasons for socialized medicine, only political ones.

In 1966 Medicare cost $3billion. The House Ways and Means committee projected that that the cost in 1990 would be $9 billion. The actual cost was $67 billion.

Different researchers have examined different aspect of Medicare costs but all of them peg the growth in to be at least 7 times higher than projected. Remember that the next time someone in government tells you how much Universal health care will cost in 10 years.

The government has over $50 trillion in unfunded liabilities before Universal Health Care comes in. Since we don’t know where all that money is coming from, where will money for health care on top of this come from?

To be entirely fair to government, health care is not the only place they have mismanaged costs, consider the list below. It was the US federal government lack of oversight and mismanagement of the first item in the list that bankrupted almost all the world economies.
1. Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac
2. Amtrak
3. Senate Restaurant
4. Medicare and Medicaid cost containment and control
5. Paying for social security over the next 50 years
6. Presenting a balanced budget every year
7. Reducing the Deficit to zero
8. Reducing the National Debt to zero.
9. The post office

There are no economic reasons to give the government more control over health care given that it has financially botched everything it has touched. Government healthcare is a political move not an economic one.

I have heard some say: Okay what would you do? My first inclination would be to do nothing. To make no changes. I have rarely heard governments of the left or the right be honest when they said there was a crisis. I for one don't think they are being honest this time either.

What generally happens about this time is that Marxists will say what about the fewer than 50 million who don't have medical insurance? To which I respond, I am open to that plan put forth by the Bush administration to cover those people. Since I am not a Socialist, I do not need to use health care as a lever to implement Marxism. A much simpler plan is fine with me.

In fact, while I would not go for Commie Care or Marxist Medicine, I do think there is even more that could be done.

Wolf Blitzer of CNN mentioned that congress could pass a law and/or President Barack Hussein Obama could make a presidential finding that would allow insurance companies to compete across state borders for customers. This competition would bring the price of health insurance down.

Finally, it may be that the way in which drugs are prescribed in the United States is too cumbersome.
It is more than likely that the way in which other countries control and prescribe drugs could benefit us here. If nothing else, either as individuals or as members of health groups or plans we should be able buy safe and competitively priced prescription drugs from anywhere on the globe--Canada for instance. That will surely bring costs down.

The difference between Socialists and the big government health care crowd in the United States is that at least Socialists are honest about what they believe.

You want proof that President Barack Hussein Obama's health care reform plans will lead to death panels and the shifting of money from sick old people to health young people, just read and consider what he said about his own grandmother: Read 'em and Weep
