Selling your Wife

There's an old joke that begins or ends with the phrase "take my wife---please." Well there are places in India where another man's wife is for sale. I had heard of people selling children, but it is a strange concept to sell a wife. This would make her just another possession rather than that whole Holy Bonds of Matrimony thing. Well even in India this ancient practice is frowned upon so telling the authorities is one way to redress the grievances. Much of the Third world's problems is caused by overpopulation but for people with nothing sometimes children are their only wealth. The only viable solution I have ever seen for these kinds of problems is the full education and empowerment of women. A women who knows that she would doom two children to a life a poverty might decide to have only one instead...
