Tony Romo = No Cowboys Super Bowl
October 2nd 2011 21:04
I cannot see any way the Cowboys get to the Superbowl with Tony Romo as quarterback. There is too much feast or famine--in the same game. It's almost like, by the second half, the defense knows the speed and location of Tony's fast ball and even when he is going to throw it so he is not fooling anybody any more. And then there is the fact that Tony spends entirely too much time throwing the ball to nobody or the other team. On top of all that, there are the receivers who either drop the ball or fail to fight for it.
The only way the Cowboys could get to the Superbowl with the liability known as Tony Romo running the quarterback position is if they kidnap Adrian Peterson and somehow convince him to run out the clock so that Tony Romo doesn't morph into Tony UhOh! or Tony OhNo! or just Tony Doh! whenever the Cowboys get a lead.
Jerry Jones has a genius for picking running backs who cannot run and picking linemen who cannot open up holes so unless they can kidnap a running back who knows how to play the position and has the skills to do so, you may has well have somebody's grandmother in the backfield. After all, granny has the phrase "I've fallen and I can't get up!" down pat so no one will notice any difference between her and the current crop of Cowboy running backs.

Tony Romo is not a 4th Quarter Quarterback

Anyway, I completely disagree with this article. I don't get why people are so fickle with Tony Romo, and they only remember the bad. Look, Tom Brady has done this before. Remember that epic collapse against the Colts in 2007? Romo is one of the best QBs in the league, and he is actually a lot more accurate than you think. The problem for him is that his offensive line has always been a little shaky in some spots, and those weak spots have always haunted him in games.
I do agree with you on one point, and that's that Romo does succumb to pressure and wilts. But the environment he plays in is difficult, as he is the quarterback of the Dallas Cowboys who already receives that much more weight on his shoulders. There are a lot of criticism directed at Romo, but people forget that he once led this team to 13-3 until Terrell Owens blew it in the playoffs- against the Giants team that "somehow" won it all.
From a pure scouting perspective, TR has the whole package as far as quarterbacks go. His only problem is indeed that he makes a little too many mistakes, but most of his picks thrown have been to Dez Bryant. That's actually an interesting thing to keep an eye on, because he rarely throws INTs when he targets Miles Austin and Jason Witten.
