Worse than a Child

Left to wander,
he might encounter stray missives
that inspire him to kill himself–
or you.
Or he might be drawn in
by the friendly flashes of seductive electrons.
They tell him that it would be a good idea to send
deadly diseases or worse,
Viagra spam,
But that’s just your phone.
You let your child play with people you don’t know
in places you have never seen.
But you would never let your personal technology do that.
If you let your electronic heart out to play
he might return an evil stranger,
hating everything you do.
questioning your every move.
Lord knows your child,
your own flesh and blood,
(after you have sent him out under the tutelage of strangers,
whose motives are never expressly stated)
would never do that.
